Audio Bitrate & File Size Calculator
PCM bitrate from sample rate, bit depth and channels; file size from bitrate and duration; and back
How it works
PCM bitrate = sample rate × bit depth × channels: CD audio is 44,100 × 16 × 2 = 1,411 kbps, about 10 MB per minute. Compressed formats are simply their bitrate × duration, so 320 kbps MP3 is 2.4 MB per minute and 96 kbps Opus 0.7 MB. Enter a bitrate (or pick a preset) and a duration for the size, or a size to see how long it lasts, and compare it with the PCM you set.
Questions
How big is a minute of WAV audio?
At CD quality (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo) about 10.1 MB; at 48 kHz 24-bit stereo about 16.5 MB; at 96 kHz 24-bit stereo about 33 MB.
How big is a 320 kbps MP3 per minute?
320 kbps × 60 s ÷ 8 = 2.4 MB per minute, 144 MB per hour.
How much smaller is FLAC than WAV?
Typically 50–60% of the PCM size for music; silence and simple material compress far more.
